James Thurman's Paper Alchemy International Traveling Exhibition
Lighthouse ArtCenter presents some of the finest metalsmiths in the country who have answered the invitation to use this unique material with endless possibilities to be featured in an exhibition which is traveling internationally.Thurmanite® is a handcrafted material made entirely of layered recycled paper and eco-resin. Each layer is revealed through carving, sanding, and polishing. Having similar properties to hardwoods, it is used in a wide variety of jewelry and home accessories and has potential for so much more...
The following are images of all of the artworks currently included in the Paper Alchemy exhibition. After confirming their invitation to join the exhibition, each participant was sent a piece of Thurmanite (sometimes custom-made from provided materials) to incorporate into their final creation. Some opted to create a single piece, a series, or a couple different approaches.

"Out of Place" Cabinet 2012 is a post-workshop project collaborative featuring the works of Kiff Slemmons and the 2010 Session 1 Metals group at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Any profits after printing costs will be donated to support the Craft Emergency Relief Fund + Artists' Emergency Resources (CERF) and will be mailed to them directly from Blurb.
